FIRST DAY OF FILMING - 23/10/13
On our first day of filming I filmed the wide shot of the forest setting, along with the long shot of Ashley with the antagonist character becoming closer and closer to him. This scene is quite long due to it being continuous. Although when I edit this part I will cut the shot into three/four parts so that it is clear that the antagonist is coming nearer. The editing will be quite fast too in order to build suspence. After this, I then filmed the mid-shot of Ash looking shocked and the long shot of the antagonist which go together to suggest that Ashley has
just seen the antagonist character. Immediately after this I filmed the close-up shot of Ashley screaming which also goes to the sequence of when he sees the antagonist. I then filmed the low angle shot looking up to the antagonist which was supposed to make her look powerful and dominant. I also filmed the wide/long shot of Ashley and Philippa running and the footage when they run toward the antagonist character. After this I filmed a zoomed close up of Ashley and Philippa screaming as well as another close-up two shot of Ashley and Philippa.

SECOND DAY OF FILMING- 24/10/13
On our second day of filming I filmed the zoom in to a close up of all the baggage piled onto the floor. I also filmed Philippa, Ashley and Harry putting up the tent. This footage was quite long so I will need to cut it down when it comes to editing as only a small section will be needed for the actual trailer. This footage was just to show the friends setting up camp whilst presenting them as happy.

I then took part in the acting side of things. This included taking on the part of the whoosy, scared character around the camp. I also took part in the team games (i.e. throwing ball) along side Ashley and Philippa. I also did some running; one time with Ashley and Harry with lots of baggage when leaving the camp and another time with Philippa and Harry through the forest. The running scenes will be used to create tension and panic once they have been edited. I also took part in the scene where the antagonist had tied up the innocent character's hands whilst she stands over them with an axe.

ROUGH FOOTAGE- 24/10/13
This is the first footage we have of the teenagers having fun. As you can see the boys are being active by playing ball which is therefore a stereotypical representation of teenage boys. The girls are just sitting there chatting and gossiping which is quite stereotypical for teenage girls. Here Harry pressed record on the video camera and then ran into the scene so that we could all be filmed in this sequence. And at the end he ran out of the scene and pressed stop on the camera. When editing this scene as the rough footage I cut both parts out so that you couldn't tell that one of the actors ran in/out of the scene. I didn't feel this footage should be used in our actual trailer because it seemed to put two of the scenes; team games and sitting around the camp into one scene and therefore had too much going on at once. It looked a bit hectic and therefore messy and unprofessional. The actual point in this scene wasn't clear. Also the duration of the scene lasted for too long. The rough footage is basically evidence that we have begun filming.

EDITING- 28/10/13 & 29/10/13
Today (28/10/13) I uploaded the footage from Day 1 and Day 2 into iMovie Events. Once each day was uploaded I created a new project and named it 'Horror Trailer'. This is where I selected the parts I wanted in the trailer from the each event and then dragged them into my project. Day 2 chronologically comes before Day 1 in our trailer. So, I highlighted each part I wanted from Day 2 and dragged it to the top and then did the same for Day 1 making it as chronological as I could meaning I had to play around with the sequencing of shots we all filmed etc. After everything was in the order what I wanted I cut down some durations of the shots even though I probably didn't select the whole shot in the first place. This was so that the shots played faster to create tension and suspence. If they went on for too long the audience would probably get bored, as in the feedback they said cut duration of shots. Also I had to make sure I cut the laughing out because it is not professional (and this was also feedback from my target audience). This shows how I am trying to meet the target audience's needs an feedback comments within the editing of the product. On 29/10/13 I decided to add a black and white effect to the footage filmed on Day 1. This was because I though it would create a much more spookier effect to the overall trailer. I thought it would also help to build tension due to the contrast between the setting of the dark woods and the white dress/nightgown the antagonist is wearing. This also helps the audience to focus on the antagonist as she will stand out more within the shots due to contrast. I edited the black and white to the scenes by double clicking on them individually and then going to 'Video' at the top of the window which came up. After this I played around with the options; trying to get the best effect I could. I made changes to the brightness, contrast and saturation. After this I went through my trailer and put in title pages of the things I needed to add. These were the mid shot of the girl in the corner, a point of view shot of the mother being killed, a wide shot of the car not starting, the long shot of antagonist walking closer, the mid shot of teenager screaming and the newspaper article.

THIRD DAY OF FILMING- 12/11/13
On our third day of filming I filmed the two-shot of Harry and Philippa which pans and zooms into a close-up of each of them to show that they are happy and excited for the camping trip due to their smiley facial expressions. After this I filmed the mid-long shot of the antagonist as a child. This shot took place in a corner of a room suggesting the antagonist has been isolated. This was the only filming I did today as I took part as one of the friends in the rest of the scenes we filmed. I was in the opening scene where the group of friends were coming out of the house and then packing their things into the boot of the car ready for the camping trip. I was then filmed in the back of the car as it drove away into the distance suggesting that the adventure had begun. Along with this, I also acted as the dead Mother lying on the floor whilst Ashley held a knife over me suggesting that he had just killed me. This was a low angle shot coming from the point of view of the girl as a child.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- Day 3 Footage

EDITING- 12/11/13
Today I edited the filming we completed. I did this by uploading Day 3 footage into the Event Library on iMovie. After this I selected each part individually which I wanted to put in the trailer and dragged it to the 'Horror Trailer' project. As I was dragging parts of footage into the project I ensured that they was being arranged in the correct place which would allow the trailer to run in the sequence intended. Although most of Day 3 footage is at the start of the trailer. After this I decided to add on-screen-text into the trailer which is conventional of form which is used to inform the audience and add to the tension. I did this by using FontSpace online; selecting a font style I wished to use and editing the text. After this I would arrange the colour to be white on a black background. This was then copied and pasted into PowerPoint which had a black background colour which allowed me to make the background colour transparent and save the file as a JPEG image.  Once this was saved as a JPEG image I could simply drag them into my 'Horror Trailer' project in the place they needed to be. After this I went through my project and deleted title pages which had now been completed; i.e. the mid shot of the antagonist as a young girl. Once I did this I added a sepia-like/olden effect to the part of the antagonist as a young girl and the part where the Mother is being killed by a man dressed in black. I did this by double clicking each scene individually and then going to 'Video' when the window came up. I then dragged the white point out to an orange colour to create the sepia affect. After this I adjusted the brightness, contrast and saturation. Once this was done I clicked on 'Clip' at the top of the same window and I went into 'Video Effect' so that I could change the way it looked so that it stood out from the rest of the trailer. I changed the effect to 'Film Grain' which added an aged-like effect due to the grain/distortion. After this I played the trailer to see what else needed to be edited within the video/clip part. I thought that the car going off into the distance was too long so I decided to cut the clip down slightly as well as speeding it up. I did this by double clicking on the part I wanted to edit which allowed the 'Inspector' window to come up. Here I played around with how fast I wanted the car to go as I didn't want to make it look unrealistic. So I changed the speed to 200%. After this I added a clip effect onto each clip of the teenagers sitting around camp (when the antagonist is in the background and when she is not in the background). This is because this is the part when the trailer turns sinister, and therefore it is beginning to get dark. To edit the clips, I double clicked them individually which brought a window up. This is where I chose 'Video Effect' and then the 'Day into Night' effect which added a slight darkness onto the clips as though it was beginning to get dark. This looked quite effective.

FOURTH DAY OF FILMING- 13/11/13
On the fourth day of filming we had to film the ending of the trailer where the antagonist walks towards the car, when the car does not start. I filmed all of today's footage. First of all I filmed a the long/wide shot from sitting in the back of the car when the antagonist is walking closer and closer towards the car. After this I filmed the mid/long shot of the teenage girl sitting in the driver's seat screaming because the car will not start. And finally I filmed a mid/wide shot of two teenagers screaming and banging on the car windows in the hope someone will hear them and help. This part will hopefully add to the tension when it is edited due to the fact that the car will not start and the antagonist is coming towards them and therefore they have nothing else to do.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- Day 4 Footage

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK SUMMARY- Day 3 & 4

EDITING- 13/11/13
Today I uploaded Day 4 footage into the Event Library on iMovie. After this was completed I was able to select the footage I needed and then drag them into the 'Horror Trailer' project in the order I wanted them to be shown to the audience. I had to crop down most of the footage filmed in order for it to be quite fast-pace to create tension and suspense. In the part where the antagonist is walking closer I chose three parts to keep in; one where she had begun the walk, one where she was half way at the car and one where she was almost right at the window screen. This was so that the on-screen text related to the antagonist becoming closer. Also I used the mid-wide shot of the teenagers banging on the windows twice; one to show the actual shot for about a second and another time after the antagonist is shown to be very close to show the teenager screaming for 0.3 seconds. Today I also had to re-arrange the on-screen-text after I imported the footage I needed into the project. This was so that the text made sense and related to the parts it needed and therefore to ensure that the flow of the text was not disrupted.

EDITING- 14/11/13
Today I had to complete any last parts of the trailer. First of all I uploaded the Newspaper article image into it's place where there was originally a title page. I did this by saving the PowerPoint as a JPEG file and then simply dragging it into the 'Horror Trailer' project. I then had to add sound into the first final version of the trailer. All of the sounds I downloaded were copyright free sound effects. The sounds I added in were: screaming, electronic distortion, heart beat, a ghost passing by and a tension building non-diegetic sound. Also I added a theme tune of Ring around the Rosie to various points in the trailer when the antagonist is shown. This was downloaded from YouTube when I searched for : Ring around the rosie scary copyright free' therefore meaning it is allowed to be used in my trailer. I had to cut down most of the clips by using the clip trimmer in iMovie so that I could select the part I wanted and for the appropriate length of time too. Using the clip trimmer allowed me to use the best part of the sound clip. After adding sound into iMovie it meant that the other sound on the clips was not needed. This meant that the sound on the actual clips had to be muted. I did this by double clicking each clip and then going to 'Audio' when a window appeared and then making the volume 0%. I did this to every single clip apart from the scenes where voice/dialogue is needed, i.e the scene when the teenagers are at the camp and one of the characters explains that she can hear something.

HORROR TRAILER- 2ND VERSION

THE WOODS FILM POSTER

FILM MAGAZINE

Extra Footage - 20/02/14
In order for our trailer to be more conventional and therefore appeal to the audience slightly more, I decided to add more footage into our trailer with the main focus being the antagonist character. This was because the antagonist character has been made the most effective character in the trailer so far, due to her costume and make-up. On 20/02/14 I filmed more footage of the antagonist approaching the camera as well as footage developing the approach (e.g. the part where she is on top of the car) in order to add panic and suspense on the viewer's behalf. I also filmed mid shots and wide shots of the antagonist looking toward the camera and away from the camera in a creepy way. Also, some of the footage featured the use of a knife, this prop therefore related to the horror genre and made it more conventional. Most of the shots filmed of the antagonist on this day show her to be quite violent and aggressive which therefore shows the audience more about what she is like, as beforehand there wasn't much coverage on her.
Along with this, I also decided to add footage which gave a little context to the trailer. So, I filmed various shots of a young girl (aged 9/10). Some included her doing childhood activities such as skipping connoting to the audience that she is happy and innocent.  Others included her looking scared and worried giving the connotation that she is lonely and unhappy.  By having these shots of the young girl it made it clear for the audience to understand the unhappiness and loneliness in her childhood which would intrude them in wanting to find out more.  This footage of the antagonist as a young girl enabled me to create the trailer into something completely different; allowing the main focus to be the girl/antagonist instead of the camp trip itself. Today, I filmed all of the footage apart from the part where the antagonist is approaching the camera as she walks through the hedge/archway. And also the part of myself and Alice skipping together (whilst I was acting as her Mother) although that part is not good enough to feature in the final trailer.

Editing - 25/02/14, 26/02/14, 27/02/14, 28/02/14
Over the few days mentioned above I have been trying to finalise the trailer. First of all I imported all of the extra footage filmed on 20/02/14 into iMovie. I then selected the parts which I wanted to include in the final trailer and dragged them into my project. I then trimmed some of these clips down, where necessary by making them the exact length I wanted them. I also re-arranged the clips in the order I wanted them. After I had done this I worked chronologically through my project altering the speed of some of the clips, such as the girl skipping which was slowed down and the knife stab which was sped up. I went through all of the clips I had where I found myself removing some clips from the previous trailer. These included; the close up of one of the protagonist character's screaming, both sequences in the car, the establishing shot, the close up of two protagonist characters smiling and the part where two protagonist characters run toward the antagonist (which doesn't make sense at all). As well as this, I removed the narrow screen clip, as this was re-filmed anyway and uploaded to my project. After this I re-arranged the text on screen too; in order to fit with the new footage imported. I also added a new piece of text onscreen at the beginning of the trailer which said: 'based on a true story'. The text was copied from the fontspace website and then pasted into PowerPoint with a black background. Here I made the text background (black) transparent so that only the white text showed up on the black PowerPoint background. After this I saved the PowerPoint as a JPEG file and uploaded the image into my project. After this I tested that I had got the clips in the correct place by continuously watching the trailer over and over. Once I was happy, I edited some of the clips by adjusting the brightness, contrast, saturation and exposure; making them black and white. I also edited most of the first section, from the skipping clip to the girl sitting on the logs outside into 'Aged film effect' making the footage look old. The wide shot clip of the young girl sitting in the corner of the room looking scared and the clip of the man in the black cloak holding a knife over a woman suggesting he has killed her have both edited into the 'Film Grain' effect, also to suggest they were in the past. Both clips of the young girl and the older girl standing in front of the swing have been edited into the 'Dream' effect. Also the transition between these two shots is the 'Dissolve' effect suggesting the little girl has turned into the evil older girl who is the antagonist. I have used fade to black and fade to white quite frequently also. The way the first part of the trailer is edited, immediately identifies that the trailer is a horror trailer because even though the young girl is supposed to be scared and worried she also looks a little scary due to her kind of pale face, long black hair and costume. After this I re-adjusted the sound already in the trailer and added new sound  clips to the trailer also. Upon doing this, I worked through trial and error of what sounded and looked right and what didn't. I decided to keep most of the sound effects the same, but also adding in the 'jack in the box' sound to the beginning of the trailer relating to the little girl's childhood, but also sounding quite spooky at the same time. Also I added in a knife chop sound effect to the appropriate clip where the antagonist is taking her anger out on the tree. I also added a heavy breathing sound clip added when the antagonist is on top of the car in order to add tension and panic. These sound effects were all copyright and royalty free showing that they were allowed to be used in my trailer. All of the other sound clips from the previous trailer were used; including the ring around the rosie theme tune, the electronic distortion, the eerie background sound (throughout the majority of the trailer), the scraping sound effect and the tension building music (towards the end). All clips were royalty and copyright free, and the majority of them were downloaded from freesfx.com. When each piece of sound has been imported, I used the clip trimmer to select the part I wanted. In some cases I had to add the sound clip more than once as the duration wasn't long enough. This was why the clip trimmer was so important so that it sounded right when it was played back. Also, I had to edit the volume of some of the sounds, either making them louder or quieter depending on their purpose. On some of the footage clips I had to mute the volume because the background noise was not needed due to the sound effects which were added. Also background sound is not professional. The last thing I did was alter the layout of the credits page. Here I opened up the PowerPoint which I had saved previously and I simply removed the logos and grouped the text and made it slightly smaller in order for it to be more conventional of it's form and therefore look more professional. This was then saved as a JPEG file and dragged into my project. I had now finalised my trailer.
